There are four basic steps to completing a DIY 'kit' of any type:
- Open all packages and/or boxes and inventory the product before you begin, making sure to lay any nuts, bolts and screws in an organized pattern(usually a party table or a long sheet of cardboard works best for this)
- Read the instruction manual and visualize each piece on a summary basis. (Make specific notes of any footers or sidenotes the manuel might have)
- Remember, 90% of 'kits' don't use a 'solid' wood material and the screwing action without pre-drilling in a 'soft' wood material usually messes up the material
- Always Always Always complete your 'kit' on a smooth level surface (they were designed to build this way so yours turns out to be as structurally sound as the model you looked at in the store)
Don't worry if you mess up, you have a few choices of fixing that:
- normally included with your 'kit' is one spare piece of lumber that you should be able to fabricate a replica.
- contact the manufacturer of your 'kit' and give them the part number (located in the parts list that you should have gone over before beginning your 'kit') they will send you a replacement
